Margaret Sloss became the first woman awarded a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Iowa State University in 1939. The Margaret Sloss Center for Women and Gender Equality on that campus is named in her honor.
Dr. Jessie Gray, a charter member of Beta Zeta Chapter, was the first female resident surgeon at the Toronto General Hospital in 1940 and the first woman elected to the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada in 1942. She is known as the "Canadian First Lady of Surgery."
